Wrapping up Seattle

Our week in Seattle is coming to a close and looking back I only have one thought. I can't imagine a place feeling more like home. Sami and I have felt remarkably welcome and at ease here every day that we've been here. Locals have been friendly, helpful, and colorful in all senses of the term.

People always warned us about 'The Seattle Freeze' and it's a phenomenon we simply haven't seen at all. People approached us warmly and frequently and with one notable exception, genuinely. The exception to that rule came at no surprise, either. There was a character we encountered downtown who made a show of praying for us, thrusting prayer beads on our wrists and insisting on a 'donation' of 20 dollars in broken English. I've seen similar money making schemes in Chicago and wasn't having it. He took the beads back before walking off in apparent disgust. Everyone else? Honest and approachable, and far outnumbering the contrary behavior.

We found ourselves in our element in surprising situations at times. After a day in the mountains hiking for far more than we should have, we treated ourselves to a nice meal out. Wearing the same clothes we hiked in, we fit right in with everyone else at the admittedly fancy restaurant. It was refreshing to see that nearly everyone else shared our dress aesthetics.

We'll have to return one day, whether it is to make a home or to simply visit is yet to be seen.

(I had plenty more examples to share for the post, but I am very tired right now so this is what you get)
