We've been on the road for just over 3 weeks now and it seems simultaneously longer and shorter than that. It feels as if travel is normal now, that this is simply life as it is supposed to be. There is a very innate routine that comes with this, we simply know that we need water, food, and gas if we are low on any, and a place to set up our tent or a bed to sleep in. It's a simple life, but then that's easy to think when there isn't a job to go to. It's easy to romanticize this lifestyle by forgetting about WorkTM.
On the other hand, realizing that only a month ago we were at home makes it very clear how little time has passed. I've been learning a song for every week of this year, and the fact that I only need to learn nine more makes this trip in its entirety seem brief.
In any case, we have a few more days in Berkeley before another week of camping(cell service is likely to fail us there). Fortunately, we are planning on camping for an entire week at the same place, rather than regularly uprooting ourselves on the road. Los Padres National Forest will be our home for the week, starting Wednesday night. We had originally planned on seeing Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, but Lake Tahoe will be seeing freezing temperatures at night and while we are equipped for that, we'd really rather not deal with that unless we have to. As for Yosemite, when you see that there is a risk of contracting the plague in the park, you want a bit more separating you and animals than a thin sheet of nylon. So we opted for warmer, no plague, and close to the coast.
